Practitioner Description:ALEXANDER TECHNIQUELearn to use your body without stress Evenings & Daytime EGHAM (M25 Junc.13) Home/ Work Visits (Please enquire) The Technique is a Therapeutic Relaxation Method for use in everyday life where you learn to choose your body's response to life's daily stresses. It focuses on efficient control of the body which can reduce wear and tear, repeated damage and assist healing. The aim of the teaching to use your body efficiently and without strain. Without addressing this responsibility, some problems need endless and perhaps unnecessary treatment. When we are younger and before we copy others we tend to be more alert and poised. This allows many babies and children to move freely without strain, something which may not always come naturally as adults. People use the Alexander Technique for Back, Neck and Joint Problems, Stress-related illnesses, RSI, Breathing Disorders, Pain Management and Poor Posture. We normally recognise when people perform extreme activities that potentially damage the body. However, many ordinary tasks undertaken inappropriately can lead to or perpetuate health problems. Sportspeople, Musicians and Actors use the Alexander Technique to enhance their performance. Improved use of the body can be applied to office work (including computer use), driving and household and garden work. Learning the Technique The Teaching Method focuses mainlyon gentle hands-on work in simple activities combined with explanation, rather than manipulation. Normal loose clothing is suitable for lessons.A Teacher of the Alexander Technique will show you how to recognise faulty longstanding habitual co-ordination and alter the tension you put into the Muscles and Joints whenever you want - eventually in complex and demanding activities. James Barclay MSTAT will give an initial consultation lasting one hour. The Consultation will give you a fuller introduction to the principles and method of learning the Technique, and can help to determine how your lessons should progress. Following the initial consultation, teaching usually takes the form of a course of 40-minute lessons. Typically 20-30 one-to-one lessons taken over a period of 6months to a year are enough for pupils to be self-sufficient but these are tailored to individual needs. An initial consultation is ?25, following which lessons are ?25 per 40-minute lesson. The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) regulates members by way of a three year training course, Professional Conduct Code and Indemnity Insurance.
