The best style advice book
I have read several books on style in the past, including previous CMB books, but this book is simply in a class of its own. I highly recommend it to every woman interested in looking her best (regardless of body shape or current weight; yes, it's possible!).
The book covers everything and goes into amazing detail. From colour to body shape and wardrobe organisation, it gives advice even as to what style of shoes, swimsuits, eyeglasses, hats, make-up, etc. to choose. It is written in a very straightforward manner and it's so well organised that it is ridiculously easy to find the best way to dress. I have a quite challenging body shape and this book proved to be the best purchase I've done in years. Highly recommended!
You can change your life!
This book is bursting with help and advice. By careful analysis of colouring and body shape, Pat Henshaw and Veronique Henderson have provided a master plan to enable the reader to identify her type and learn how to choose the correct make-up, colours and styles to complement it. Some of the suggestions may surprise you but, give it a go - they work! It's all about having the confidence to try a new look and the photographs show it can be done without using sticklike 20-somethings - this is for real people!
I thoroughly recommend this book whether you want a complete overhaul or just need some fresh ideas for the new year.
Great for Women, But what about Men??
Ive been after a reference book on this for ages so have carefully browsed the available titles and settled for this little gem. In short im FAR too stingy to actually pay for a full consulation and wanted a book instead.
The book is well presented, efficiently explained and provides enough guidance to make the logic behind it seem practical and exciting. Nothing fills with me with more dread then sorting out my black hole of a wardrobe! This makes it seem possible.
Its seperated into sections explaining how the book and techniques work, the psycology of colour and then it proceeds into refining down what colours suit you on the whole. Im a 'Soft' 'Warm' if you must know (but my skin tone is a bit mixed so i sometimes fit into 'Soft' 'Cool'). I immeidatly noticed a great number of colours i regularly wear- which is highly encourgaing, but it also showed me alot of colours i wouldnt NORMALLY consider, which was helpful. This was all based amongst further tips and suggestions for your own personal colouring. The ideas it gave for wearing the pallett colours together were questionable (salmon pink and green anyone?) and it didnt take into consideration the wardrobe staple of 'jeans' and what colours to wear with them. Overall though it was reassuring and inspiring. It would be handy to get swatches of the colour chart to take whilst shopping as its easy to forget what tone of Navy you are allowed to wear. I also noticed that no one, except red heads are allowed to wear Orange... and i love orange!!! Disaster!
The next sections proceed to discover your body shape (very handy) and recommend clothing to balance your 'look' overall. I recommend you read all the information it gives because even though i fell mostly into one category i found the advice in some other body type sections relevant also. Finally it tries and pinpoints your style personality via a quick quiz. It provides some fashion gurus style to be inspired by, some advice to follow and some ideas on looks you might enjoy. I ended up with 'Romantic' which is surprisingly spot on. I do like to look girly. And more amusingly my boyfriend looked at my list of 'fashion gurus' including celebrities such as Liz Hurley, Kylie, Scarlet Johansson, Charlize Theron and they are all women whom he fanices. He now calls me his 'all in one perfect woman' as i seem to embrace his favourite qualities of all these stars in one person.
Taking this book from a male perspective was a bit of a let down however. My boyfriend really wanted some style advice and even though i could provide him with some advice about colours it had no information on what hair styles would suit him, nor what type of clothes.
It would be GREAT if they brought out a male version of the book as their colour consulation service is available to men too... so whats the point of bringing out a female only book?
A book worthy of its price tag but not indepth enough to solve all my problems or queries. Simple enough to follow and get some benefit from.
