Essences

Essences refer to the healing energies of flowers, crystals and other natural elements that have been alchemically absorbed into water. Flower essences especially have been used for centuries and were rediscovered in the 1930s by a British physician named Dr. Bach.

Flower essences enable healing by working on the emotional, spiritual and mental state of the individual and not so much the physical body. Like many alternate therapies, floral essences also work on the premise that the emotional and spiritual well being of an individual can positively influence his physical health. Similarly, disharmony within the mind and soul can manifest itself as disease.

Flower essences are used to induce a feeling of emotional health and positive spirit within the patient to encourage good health.

History Of Flower Essences

A British physician named Dr.Bach became disillusioned with the healing abilities of medicine. He had gained extensive knowledge of homeopathy and worked many years in this field. Seeing the relatively low success rate of allopathic medicine, Bach became convinced that people needed to be cured emotionally and not physically to alleviate their problems permanently.

While taking a walk in the woods to calm his mind, Bach licked off the dew on the petals of the Impatiens flowers. He realized that soon after he was feeling much calmer and less impatient. Making the connection, Bach tried the same experiment for a few days more and realized there was indeed a connection between the flower water or dew and the change in his feelings. On further investigation he found that the dew of the Mimulus flower could help calm everyday fears.

Thus began the journey of the use of flower essences to cure human ailments. Bach continually put flowers in water and left them in the sun to energise the water. He used that flower essence or flower remedy as he called it, to modify feelings and emotions within humans. Bach worked with flowers through the entire span of his life and listed out the effect they have on emotions. He had characterized the healing energies of 38 flowers when he died.

Subsequent to Bach’s death, the study of flower essences was continued across the globe by many individuals. Different regions have different species of flowers and each flower has its own special characteristics.

How Do Flower Essences Work?

Flower essences use the potentisation theory of homeopathy. A fresh flower in the peak of its bloom is plucked and paced into a glass bowl filled with clear spring water. The bowl of water is left in the sun all day and is infused with the energies of the flower. This healing water or flower essence is then preserved in brandy to be used as required. The essences contain the natural healing energies of the flowers from which they are made. As Bach put it so eloquently himself, “(they) cure by flooding our bodies with beautiful vibrations of Higher Nature which melt disease like snow in the sunshine!”

Bach theorized that humans are born happy and healthy. This can be verified by observing any child at play. However, as one goes through life various events and stresses cause us to imbibe negative energies into our bodies. We develop unnatural defence mechanisms that act as blockages and prevent us from realizing our maximum potential. The body is no longer aligned with the spirit. This misalignment with the spirit is then manifested into physical symptoms of disease.

By fixing our emotional patterns to be whole and complete we can also find relief from physical ailments. Unbalanced emotions can cause scarring and block the free flow of energy in the body. This results in parts of us being in disharmony with the whole. Flower essences share the unique vibrations of the flowers that help heal our auras and enable us to vibrate at our natural frequencies.

Thus, flower essences heal the body by healing the emotions.

Advantages Of Flower Essences

  • There is almost no chemical or physical plant element in the flower essences like pollen. Thus, flower essences can be administered to anyone without fear of allergies or side effects.

  • Flower essences are preserved in alcohol – brandy to be specific. However, the dose is only 4 drops at one time and can be diluted with water if need be. Hence the alcohol can be evaporated before the prescription is taken.

  • Flower essences can also be made using vinegar or glycerine if brandy is not suitable for your body type.

  • Flower essences are completely safe since they use little or no organic materials.

  • Flower energies are all positive. So they are completely safe for self-administration except in extreme cases where medical intervention is necessary. Even if one was to intake the wrong essence, the effect wears off soon enough to not cause any harm.

  • Flower essences can be taken with any kind of food and drinks. They do not have the limitations of homeopathy.

  • Flower essences are non-addictive because they work with the emotions and not the physical body.

  • It requires just one bowl of flowers to make a few million doses of flower essences. Thanks to their curative properties, this is also a great way to encourage people to preserve nature.
