| Has anybody heard of or tried Accupressure? How different is it from Acupuncture? Does it work as well? |

| Acupressure and Acupuncture are different in a way that acupuncture uses needles for relaxing and stress release but acupressure is like applying pressure at some point mainly applied by massage therapist. It is applied at certain points to relax and get relief. It really works well, just ask some one at home to just massage your back with fingers applying pressure at some points and you could feel the relaxation it gives. |

| I know accupuncture uses needles & accupressure uses some sort of pressure. The latter must be like massage, but with fingers. I was sondering if they used some object or device to apply the pressure. But it seems less painful than acupuncture (with needles). I have a thing against needles! I'm terrified of them! |

I am terrified of needles too ! That is why I have never tried acupuncture even though it does wonders. Sounds like acupressure would be better for me. |

| Acupressure surely is best for me. I would prefer it more than acupuncture. I at times get this done at home with my aunt but she isn't a professional tho but just relaxes me doing it similar to acupressure. So I wish to try it out soon. |

They are the same thing, Almost.
They use the same points and work on the same meridian channels.
Acupuncture means you break the skin, this can be done with more than just needles.
Acupressure mean you apply pressure on the spots but do not break the skin.
What massage therapist use is called trigger point therapy. There you apply pressure to spots that have muscle tears that bunch up.
If you find a sore spot on your body, check the other side of your body in the same place. If it hurts also you have an pressure/puncture issue. If it is only on one side and if it causes a "shooting" pain it is a trigger point issue.
That is just a small guide. |

| Do you find that acupressure relaxes you more than acupuncture? I know that they are different. |

I don't like needles, so I would say pressure.
When doing treatments of any type, even from a doctor you should always follow the guidelines of LEAST invasive treatment to MOST invasive.
So, say guided meditation, to energy theraphy, to polarity, to shiatsu to swedish, to deep tissue, then to rolfing and acpuncture.
I know I skipped a lot of things. |

Do you mean acupuncture/acupressure, can be used to treat the pressure/puncture issue and the trigger point issue? Same treatment for both? You got me a little confused! |

I would rather prefer acupressure rather than acupuncture coz' I am scared of the needles, I am not sure whether it gives relief or no but I am sure I am not going to get relaxed or relieved with the fear for needle prick. |

Acupuncture and acupressure target the same sites, at least on the back, called pressure points. These are believed to be spots that stimulate the flow of energy through the "meridian system"-for more information on that you probably need to look at some traditional Chinese medicine.
I western medicine pressure points are where bundles of nerves appear to cooperate in sending pain signals so that pressing on one of those spots results in more pain than in the areas involve in radiating pain. They are like the sore spot in the center of a bruise.
As I said, both acupressure and acupuncture use pressure points, but you need ot look at Chinese medicine to find where they are distributed throughout the body. |
