| Although I've never actually practiced aromatherapy for medicinal purposes, I'm a firm believer in different scents affecting our moods. Candles are a biggie with me. Each room has a different scent for the single purpose of igniting a certain mood. |

| I would love to learn more about aromatherapy. I have a different scented candle in room. Can anyone advise as to which candles would work best ? |

| I was wondering what are your favourite scents of your candles? I have found that I love the raspberry and lavender scents so far. |

| I really like Lavendar but have no clue about how far it would really help or be involved in aromatherapy. |

I love Lavender as well and also French Vanilla. I read somewhere that that scented candles definitely have a therapeutic effect, but I do not know too much about it. I will keep looking into it though. |

| Since aromatherapy is based on smell, you can probably use a fragrance oil for your candles, tarts, and oil warmers. I personally believe that the only time you would want the more expensive essential oils is if you are applying them to the skin. |

Hi! I'm a practicing clinical aromatherapist - hope to be of help?
Fragrance oils don't have the same effect as essential oils and would not be considered 'aromatherapy' by trained aromatherapists. Yes they smell nice but it's not just the smell but the chemical make-up of the essential oils that have different effects on us.
Lavender for example has a high content of esters and alcohols - its this that gives it its relaxing, calming properties. You wouldn't get this from a fragranced oil or scented candle unless it stipulated that is contained essential oils.
So if you're looking for true aromatherapy steer clear of fragrance oils and always use essential oils. |

Yes, this helped tremendously. That's very interesting. I never knew that. I need to find some essential oils. Aromatherapy is always something I have been curious about but never went too far in depth (until now). Thanks again. |

| I know that I am very sensitive to smells. I can get a severe headache from a bad smell! I keep candles or oil burning to keep a nice aroma in my home all day long. |

I just recently visited Mayfield Lavender Fields in Sutton near Oak Farm and bought some organic essential lavender oil from a nice Irish chappie called Brandon who introduces you to the oils and other items from the farm`s production.
There are 3 different species of lavender grown there. I love lavender and am currently writing a page about it for my website because of it`s therapeutic effects on stress and high blood pressure, through massage and relaxation. I also live of a street in Mitcham called Lavender Avenue and the history of Mitcham and it`s lavender is very interesting. It was at one time the best Lavender oil in the world but declined after the second half of the 19th century. What a shame!
I use a diffuser at home which releases very fine mist of oil into the air, or I will mix it with a mixing oil and massage it into my feet and legs. I also like to put a few drops on a hanky inside my pillow case which induces sleep. It is truely lovely!
If you get a chance, go visit the farm especially around June - August and you will see a spectacular splash of colour with the beautiful lavender fragrance filling the air.
You can see the fields in bloom at their website
