Huna
It is believed that several hundred years back, all the people in the entire world lived according to the principles of Huna. But as time went by, and the modern way of life became more and more popular, people started to move away from the teachings of Huna and embraced newer beliefs and principles.
What Is Huna
Huna is a Hawaiian word meaning ‘secret’. Today, Huna refers to the secret teachings of the ancient Hawaiian chiefs and their people. According to the beliefs of people in ancient Hawaii (Polynesia), all of man’s problems could be cured when man is completely connected to his higher self.
When you are in tune with your inner wisdom and your spirit, it is this spirit that will come to your aid whenever you find yourself in any problem. Thus, the teachings of Huna try to impart secret knowledge and understanding, with the help of which you can connect to the highest wisdom that is inside you. Once you are in tune with your inner self, healing and harmony can be brought about through the intense and strong power of the mind.
In other words, you can recognize Huna teachings as a natural way of expanding your inner knowing and empowering you with your inborn psychic capabilities. Let us see how Huna works.
Fundamentals of Huna
Huna is a healing art and earth science, which is also referred to as a psycho-religious system of healing, because it uses the fundamentals of religion and psychology. Huna works on the basis of 3 minds, 4 bodies, and 7 principles. Let us take a look at each of these, so as to better understand the workings of Huna.
The 3 Minds of Huna
According to the teachings of Huna, every person has not just one, but 3 minds. These are:
1) Uhane or the Conscious Mind The Conscious Mind of a person is the mind that we all are aware of. When one talks of using his mind, it is the Conscious Mind that one is referring to. Your Conscious Mind is the logical, rational, thinking, and lucid part of you. Now we come to your second mind.
2) Unihipili or the Unconscious Mind The Unconscious Mind of a person is one that we are not very aware of. It is because of this Unconscious Mind that we are able to do many tasks. Whereas thinking, believing, etc are done by your Conscious Mind, your entire body is controlled by your Unconscious Mind. Because of your Unconscious Mind you are able to breathe, your eyes can blink, and your blood is flowing freely through your veins. Although you are not actually aware of all these functions, they are happening in your body, and are being controlled by your Unconscious Mind.
3) Aumakua or the Higher Conscious Mind (Higher Self) In addition to the Conscious and the Unconscious Mind, everyone has a Higher Conscious Mind, which they are not aware of. Huna teachings believe that all people are made up of solid matter and spirit. It is this spirit that is being referred to as your Higher Self. Now let’s see how all these 3 minds relate to one another.
All the three minds as referred to above are connected to one another by the Life Force Energy, which in Huna terms is known as Mana. It is this Mana, or your very Life Force, which makes communication between your three minds possible. There is one more element to this equation, and it is called Aka.
Aka is your spiritual shadow, much like small hollow tubes, and it is through this Aka that the Mana flows and connects the 3 minds. The Aka is not actually some physical element but is an ethereal one.
The 4 Bodies of Huna
-
The Mental Body (where the Conscious Mind resides)
-
The Emotional Body (where the Unconscious Mind resides)
-
The Spiritual Body (where the Higher Self resides)
In addition to the above 3 bodies, we have a fourth Physical Body. This body is where all the other 3 bodies reside. Each of the 3 bodies is directly controlled by the mind that it houses.
Everyone is aware of their Physical Body, the part of them that is visible for all to see. But not many are in touch with their other 3 bodies. There are some who are aware of their Mental Body, thus being reasonable, thinking people. Then there are those who are in tune with their Emotional Body, thus such a person being aware of his emotions and feelings. But very few people know about their Spiritual Body, which is where their true spirit lies.
The teachings of Huna aim to make people understand and be in perfect tune with all their bodies, so as to bring about total body healing with the power and strength of your spirit.
The 7 Principles of Huna
Huna teachings are based on the following 7 basic principles:
-
Ike: Whatever you think, that is the world
-
Makia: Energy flows where attention goes
-
Kala: Everything is possible and there are no limits
-
Manawa: This is the moment of power
-
Mana: All power comes from inside you
-
Aloha: To love is to be happy with
-
Pono: Truth is only measured through effectiveness
Thus, a complete understanding and knowledge of your 3 minds, 4 bodies, and its 7 principles; that is what Huna is all about.
