Reflexology (a form of accupressure) treats disorders and illnesses on an emotional, physical and spiritual level. If you arrive for a treatment and have a list of symptoms that you'd like treated, reflexology doesn't just treat the area affected but the whole body. I.e. If you have a headache this can be treated at the source of the pain but also if it is being caused by an allergy, digestive problems or stress. Painkillers only temporarily block the pain whereas reflexology encourages the body to heal itself by stimulating the 7000 nerve endings on the feet using special pressure techniques. These nerve endings stimulate the endocrine system (glands which control our immune system) and our organs into working more efficiently.
The treatment begins with you taking off your socks and shoes and lying on a salon couch. Your feet are gently cleansed, massaged with a natural oil and then gentle but firm pressure is applied to each section of the foot. The therapist will know if a particular organ is out of balance due to the temperature, colour and condition of your skin. She may also feel a build ups of crystals on nerve endings, tenderness or tension which she will work on further to balance. Whilst working on these areas you may feel tingling in the body whilst the therapist is working on that area of the foot. The treatment will end with more massage on the feet using a moisturising foot cream.
Reflexology does not claim to cure but it does help your body to work more effeciently, balancing each area and should assist the body into healing itself naturally. Clients are encouraged to continue being assessed by their doctor and to continue taking their medication.
This therapy induces a deep state of relaxation which will help improve your sleep patterns and enable you to de-stress. Did you know that when we are stressed our digestive and fertility systems work less efficiently? The body shuts down organs that it feels are not required so that you can cope with the stressful situation more efficiently. Reflexology helps balance the hormones released via the adrenal glands so that you have fewer problems with these systems.
It stimulates the circulation of blood and lymph (body's immune system) supply to the cells and tissues of each organ, gland and bone, which will help nourish and detoxify the whole body, enabling it to work more effectively.
Reflexology also stimulates the nervous system, enabling enhanced energy and vitality.
After your treatment you will feel so relaxed and you will feel like you are walking on air!! This therapy is especially good for treating pain, stress-related illness, hormone problems, arthritis and skin problems. It is also recommended for pregnant ladies during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy to help eliminate sleepless nights, ease back pain, tone muscles and balance hormones to prepare for labour.
